After releasing the detailed timeline in March, we move on to making the planning even more useful. Many of the changes in this release, such as not having to log in so often and estimates on cards, have been asked for by our active and engaged community of users. Here’s what has been changed. As usual, I will end by giving a short idea of what you can expect in the future.

Changes in Kanban Boards:

  • Estimated work load on cards
  • Burn-up of estimates
  • Easy attachment of files to cards
  • Copy URL to boards and cards

Changes in Gantt:

  • Project steps editing
  • Zoom
  • Hide timeline

Other changes

  • Reply to posts by email
  • Option to stay logged in

ESTIMATES IN BOARDS

From popular demand we gather that being able to estimate the work load on different cards is something that many of our users would find useful and that would make it easier to follow progress on the board. Therefore we now introduce a possibility to set estimations on the workload on each card. To simplify the process we will suggest a set of relative numbers for the team to choose from. Each card should be weighted against the other cards on the board. In the burn-up charts you can see either a burn up of number of cards or of estimates.

We use the Planning Poker estimation concept, which you can read about in more detail here:

EASY TO ATTACH FILES TO CARDS

A while back we made it easier to attach files to posts on the project overview and now it’s just as easy to attach files to cards. When you choose to attach a file, you will be able to select from files in the project, on your computer, or from Dropbox or Google docs. All project members  will get read rights to the document that you link in from Dropbox and Google Docs but they will not be allowed to edit the files.

COPY URL:S TO BOARDS AND CARDS

If you want to share a board or a card, just open it and copy the URL in the web browser’s address field. This can be used to refer people straight to the board or card in questions. Please remember that only project members can see boards and cards in a project.

For more information about the boards visit our web site.

PROJECT STEPS IN TIMELINE DETAILS (GANTT)

Add and edit project steps in the same view as the activities on the timeline. The detailed timeline view also has the option to add project steps. These project steps can be dragged and dropped at any appropriate place on the timeline.

ZOOM IN TIMELINE (GANTT)

The project timeline has been enhanced with the possibility to zoom in and out. This makes it easier to get an overview of the timeline details and to jump to areas in the future.

The following zoom levels are available:

  • 25%
  • 50%
  • 100%
  • 200%

HIDE THE TIMELINE

Maybe you need a bigger work area at the moment? Hide the timeline by clicking on the hide timeline button underneath the timeline.

WHAT’S UP NEXT?

Some projects that we are working on and that we hope to be able to release next release (21st May):

  • Access rights for kanban boards – a frequent request from our users.
  • An updated version of the conversations tool on the Project Overview which includes a new design, better previews of pictures, files and videos and the possibility to attach multiple files.

A new version of the Document tool which will be significantly faster is also in the pipe. We have a version of this in internal beta but we need further development and testing before being ready for release.

We  are also working on a project event feed to be displayed on the Project Overview. Scheduled for release this year.
